        Kodan
Samurai Kodan and Harakiri Poem. Kyoko KANDAs and Takiya KUWAHARAs „MEOTO SHOW“.
	      Performance & Workshop
Kodan is a traditional Japanese art of narration. The exciting historical tales are full of military adventures, glorious heroes, human emotions and relationships. Tokugawa IEYASU (1543-1616) is said to be the first who listened to such stories as Taiheiki, accompanied by the beat of the hariougi (Japanese fan) by Houin AKAMATSU. In today’s Japan, kodan can be seen on special small stages and is only mastered by 60 artists. At NIPPON CONNECTION, Kyoko KANDA and Takiya KUWAHARA will open their precious box of ever transforming and newly created tales.
Experience kodan in Kyoko KANDA’s and Takiya KUWAHARA’s performance, first in the traditional interplay of voice, gesture and the beating of the hariougi, then in little scenes depicting everyday life. With charme and wit, they will spark up your imagination and make you hold your stomach while you laugh.
In the workshop, you can try out kodan in a relaxed atmosphere. Feel the rhythm of kodan and the Japanese language in the recital of just a few easy lines and the accompanying beat. Experience the interaction of your body, your voice and the rhythm as well as the emotions of the audience. No prior knowledge of Japanese required.
