Japan Voices
Three Sound Scenarios by Malte Jaspersen

voice

In this sound installation by radio author Malte Jaspersen, composed exclusively for NIPPON CONNECTION, voice and sound fragments from Tokyo and Osaka are combined into a mosaic of sound played in the toilets. The very special location for this installation is a reference to the Japanese “sound princess” Otohime, a device covering up the acoustic reality in public toilets with artificial flushing sounds.

Enjoy a fine cup of tea and let yourself be taken to the acoustic underground scene of Osaka via headphones. In these two radio features by Malte Jaspersen, the voices of Mimura (bondage artist), Oshiri Penpenz (Osaka’s answer to Iggy Pop) and the trash pop duo of Mash Cucumbers convey the feeling of the very lively and extraordinary country that is Japan.
