	      Kaiji is a  deadbeat job hopper living hand to mouth. One day a loan company tells him that  he has to pay 2.02 million yen for a debt he casually cosigned for a friend at  work, who is now missing. The company invites Kaiji to board a ship where he  can clear the debt overnight. He must play a mysterious game that will change  his life.
